GOOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME! ALL THE TIME GOD IS GOOD!! AMEN!! ALLELUIA!! PRAISE GOD!!
These were just a few of the phrases being called out during worship today at WNC Baptist Fellowship Church, our “sister church” in helping to heal the racial divide in our community. A small group of us went to join them for their 11:00 worship service, where we were greeted with smiles and open arms, where we were lifted up by the Word of God, where we were encouraged to be ourselves, and where we left feeling full of joy and God’s love and asked to return anytime.
The entire congregation of St. Mark’s has been invited to join WNC Baptist for an important class on bridging the racial divide in Asheville. This 3-part series is going to have something to learn for everyone. Even for those who may think they don’t “need” this class, I think it’s going to be important to show up so we can show our community that peace is not only possible, but it’s how God wants us to live. He made us all different, and we need to figure out how to accept and live with each other and love each other while allowing each other to stay different. How boring and bland would the world be if we were all the same? God knows what’s up!!
The part of Rev. Ray’s sermon, from John 1: 35-42, that stuck with me was from verse 39 where Jesus says, “Come and see.” So we are inviting you. COME AND SEE! The first of the 3-part series is going to be Saturday, August 5th, at WNC Baptist Fellowship Church. 240 Haywood St. Literally 2 minutes from St. Mark’s (maybe 3 depending on the red light situation!). Breakfast will be served at 9:30am and the meeting is scheduled from 10-noon. Please come and see for yourselves how ridiculously nice our friends on Haywood St. are. They are certainly looking forward to spending time with all of us! There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin boards across from the elevator doors downstairs, so if you plan to attend, please let us know.
